Gannon fills out football coaching staff

Gannon announced the addition of five new coaches to its football staff Wednesday.

Aaron Shaw, Will Giles, Khayree Connors-McChristian, Donnie Mallin and Ian Jeffers will join head coach Brad Rzyczycki on the Golden Knights, who were 3-8 last season.

Shaw, the new tight ends coach, is a Duke graduate who coached high school football at Northwestern (2008-10) after spending time as an assistant coach at West Orange (Fla.) High School (2006-08) and at North East in 2004.

Giles (safeties), Connors-McChristian (defensive backs), Mallin (offensive assistant) and Jeffers (student defensive assistant) all completed their college careers at Gannon last fall.

Gannon opens the season Thursday, Sept. 5, at Lake Erie. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Other area college football season openers are as follows:

Edinboro: At Walsh University (Canton, Ohio), Sept. 5, 7 p.m.

Mercyhurst: At Bentley University (Waltham, Mass.), Sept. 7, noon

Allegheny: Vs. Kenyon (Meadville), Sept. 7, 1 p.m.
